At the turn of the 20th century, local stone was a source of great wealth for the country, both as a building material and an export commodity. However, the facades of the capital highlighted during this walk illustrate the confrontation with two formidable competitors: stone from Lorraine and concrete. For the government, national preference quickly became a political choice. We will see the place occupied by Luxembourgish stone in the capital's architecture around 1900.
Departure: arcades of the Cercle-Cité, place d'Armes
Arrival: former ARBED palace (19, av. de la Liberté)
The tour will be held in Luxembourgish.
