The talk by Régis Moes, Deputy Director of the MNAHA, presented as part of our exhibition Vu Lilien a Linnen. Jugendstil, Handwierk a Konscht zu Lëtzebuerg, was recorded and is now available online.

Around 1900, despite the absence of a museum and a fine arts school, there was a growing awareness in Luxembourg of the importance of “national” artistic creation, a theme reflected in the exhibition “Vu Lilien a Linnen. Jugendstil, Handwierk a Konscht zu Lëtzebuerg.” This artistic scene developed through a constant dialogue with other countries. At the same time, a new legal framework and new institutions played an important role, complementing the contribution of private patrons. The lecture presents the particular context of this period, when, thanks to the expansion of the steel industry, the State had the means for the first time to pursue a national policy, including in the fields of art and education.
