From 28 March to 27 September 2026, the Roman villa by Echternach lake reopens its doors, inviting visitors to rediscover one of Luxembourg’s most fascinating archaeological treasures.
First built in 70 CE, the vestiges of the villa and its flourishing garden offer the perfect backdrop for a lively programme of activities throughout the season.
Events and collaborations
This year, the villa has plenty in store, with monthly activities that blend relaxation, discovery and a touch of fun. Our popular yoga sessions with Linda Navalha are back, offering a peaceful moment surrounded by the garden’s greenery. If you prefer stories that spark the imagination, Lex Gillen’s storytelling tours bring the past to life as Ocellio, the villa’s “procurator,” and Valentina, the mother of the estate’s owner, guide guests through their splendid Roman home. For nature and history lovers, Marc Schoellen enriches the programme with engaging tours exploring Roman gardens and their plants.
The villa also teams up with several major cultural events throughout the year. In May, it will take part in Luxembourg Museum Days (16-17 May). In June, the season becomes even busier: from 5 to 7 June, the villa joins Rendez-vous aux jardins 2026, dedicated to the theme “La vue” and coordinated by the Ministry of Culture. Shortly afterward, from 12 to 14 June, the site participates in the Journées européennes de l’archéologie, organised by the Institut national de recherches archéologiques (INRA), featuring a special guided tour by Nicole Brix in Echternach. Towards the end of the season, the villa will once again be part of the Journées européennes du patrimoine in September.
Guided and Self-guided Tours
To complement these experiences, guided tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday, available in several languages. Led by passionate and knowledgeable guides, they bring history to life and provide valuable context for both first-time and returning visitors.
For independent explorers, the villa offers a selection of self-guided tours, each highlighting a different facet of Roman life. The rooftop tour provides sweeping perspectives over the lake and surrounding landscape, revealing the ingenious layout of the estate. The architectural tour showcases the mastery of Roman construction, from mosaics and columns to clever design features still admired today. Those curious about Roman bathing and eating habits can pick the daily life tour, which illustrates routines, food preparation and leisure in a once-bustling residence. Finally, the garden tour immerses visitors in Roman horticulture, revealing plants used for nourishment, healing and beauty.
Whether you’re fascinated by architecture, keen to learn about daily life in antiquity or simply looking for a peaceful walk through a historic garden, Réimervilla Echternach is an ideal destination for family outings and cultural adventures. Come by on a sunny day and see the villa at its best – entry is free, and we look forward to welcoming you!
