Feet on the pedals, Nicolas Frantz was known and loved in the Grand Duchy because he provided his compatriots with many reasons to be proud of their country - and of themselves. Brush and palette in hand, Joseph Kutter had a hard time "breaking through" in his home country, where his official recognition was only posthumous. The cyclist and the artist met in Luxembourg, in the artist's studio, who then created a very quirky portrait of the champion. The result: a controversial work that perhaps reveals the personality of the painter rather than that of the model. In any case, it is a painting that, 90 years after its presentation in Paris, still raises questions.
